Last week, members of Gobstoppers aged 14 – 18 years have been involved in a four day theatre workshop experience which has culminated in a performance of ‘The Tempest’ by William Shakespeare at The Minack Theatre in Cornwall. Chris & Victoria Williams from Gobstoppers Theatre Company arranged the ‘Raise Your Voice’ project to link children from Dacorum and Cornwall, whilst offering the experience of working with professionals in the industry and performing on such a beautiful and world famous stage. Tutors included West End Choreographer Phil Aiden, West End Stage Manager Rose Scarborough, former Gobstoppers Adam Wilson from The Guilford School of Acting and Professional Actress Emma Murray.
‘The whole experience has been magnificent. Not only have we combined 35 children from Hertfordshire and Cornwall, we have produced a fantastic production which has included all the traditional Cornish language, dance, movement, song and music’
Local Folk Band ‘Dalla’ gave a workshop on Wednesday morning and the music was then written and composed that afternoon and the choreography set that evening.
The children were inspired, excited and thrilled about performing at such a prestigious venue as the Minack Theatre. On the day of the performance, the sun shone so brightly and over 250 people from all over the world attended the two performances. Parents who travelled from Dacorum to support the project were overwhelmed by the production and Gobstoppers have said it was ‘the best week of their lives.’
Pictures coming soon!
